Impact and Evaluation Consultant
As Evaluation Manager, leading and supporting multiple large-scale, multi-site randomised controlled trials focused on youth offending. This includes working collaboratively with delivery organisations and external evaluators to design robust impact and process evaluations, develop theories of change, and identify appropriate outcome measures.
Led multiple rounds of the evaluation of the Safer Streets Fund, a large-scale Home Office programme aimed at reducing crime in public spaces. Played a central role in shaping the evaluation approach, including designing the evaluation specification and setting evidence requirements from a Home Office perspective. Supported the recruitment of external evaluators and worked closely with evaluation partners to design and manage the multi-site impact and process evaluations, which involved a quasi-experimental design (QED). Provided strategic oversight across all stages of delivery, from design through to analysis and reporting, ensuring findings were robust, policy-relevant and comparable across funding rounds.
Led research and evaluation on UK sentencing guidelines, designing and managing a nationwide online survey across all magistrates’ courts in England and Wales. The study tested selected sentencing guidelines, including theft, robbery and bladed articles. I designed the survey instrument, worked closely with digital designers to develop and pilot the online tool, and secured engagement and buy-in from magistrates’ courts nationally. I monitored response rates throughout fieldwork, analysed the findings, and delivered clear, policy-relevant insights to Ministry of Justice colleagues to inform decision-making.
Led a national qualitative study examining the underuse of Mental Health Treatment Requirements (MHTRs) and the challenges to effective diversion within the criminal justice system. Designed and delivered the research, conducting in-depth interviews with judges, probation practitioners, liaison and diversion services and psychiatrists across England. The study explored system-level barriers and facilitators, with a particular focus on inter-agency working and decision-making in sentencing and diversion.
Led analysis of survey and monitoring data for MAZE Group’s parenting and ADHD awareness programmes. Combined quantitative analysis with qualitative insight, including parent feedback and testimonials, to assess programme outcomes and demonstrate impact. Produced a clear, evidence-based report to support an NHS funding application, contributing to a successful bid and the subsequent expansion of services across Essex.
